1. Before Joining a Meeting
- Open Microsoft Teams and go to your Calendar.
- Select the meeting you want to join.
- Click on the "Join" button.
- Before you actually join the meeting, you’ll see a preview screen.
- In the preview screen, locate the Background settings (usually represented by an icon with a person and a background).
- Click on it to open the Background settings menu.
2. Selecting a Background
- In the Background settings menu, you’ll see a few different options:
- No Background: Keeps your natural background.
- Blur: This blurs your real background for a subtle effect.
- Pre-made Backgrounds: Microsoft Teams has a library of preset images you can choose from (e.g., an office setting, nature scenes).
- Add New: This option allows you to upload a custom image from your computer.
- Select your desired background by clicking on it. A preview will appear so you can see how it looks before joining.
3. Using a Custom Background
- If you want to use a custom background image, click on the Add New (+) button in the Background settings menu.
- Browse your computer and select an image file you’d like to use. Teams supports common image formats like JPG and PNG.
- After selecting the image, it will appear in your background options. Click on it to apply it.
4. Applying the Background During a Meeting
- If you’re already in a meeting and want to change your background:
- Move your mouse to bring up the Meeting controls.
- Click on the More actions (three dots) icon.
- Select Apply background effects.
- Choose your desired background or click on Add New to upload a custom image.
- Click Apply and turn on video to set the new background while keeping your video active.
5. Removing a Background
- If you want to return to your natural background, go back to Background settings and select None.
Tips for Choosing Backgrounds
- Use High-Quality Images: Ensure the resolution is high enough so it doesn’t appear pixelated.
- Keep it Simple: Busy backgrounds can be distracting to others.
- Be Mindful of the Setting: Use professional backgrounds for formal meetings, but feel free to get creative with friends or informal calls.
Troubleshooting
- If Background Settings Are Not Showing Up: Ensure your Teams app is updated to the latest version, as older versions may lack this feature.
- Camera Permissions: Make sure Teams has permission to access your camera in your computer’s privacy settings.
